4 MORE things you need to know about SeriousFun camps

4 more things you need to knowBy Kelly Elliott, Acting Director, Camp Support Services

A few months ago, we shared with you a few key things about SeriousFun camps that we thought you should know. Here are a few more:

#1 – Programs are designed to be inclusive and accessible for all.
Whether it is a pool heated to a medically appropriate 90 degrees, a ramp to the theater stage, or a safety harness to provide a smooth transition from a wheelchair into a canoe, SeriousFun programs are designed to ensure an attitude of “Yes, I can,” rather than “No, I can’t.”

#2 – SeriousFun camps are free of charge.
Our founder, Paul Newman, was all about the kids. As we carry on his legacy, we are committed to the same ideal. That’s why no child or family will ever pay to attend a SeriousFun camp. All of this is made possible through private and corporate donors who understand the simple yet powerful concept of camp.

4 more things you need to know#3 – SeriousFun camps serve little kids and big kids too!
When a child is diagnosed with an illness, the whole family is affected – and this is why SeriousFun camps don’t stop at just serving children. Through weekend programs for parents and siblings, kids big and small are given the chance to experience the impact of camp and to be reminded of what being a family is all about.

#4 – Volunteers apply face paint and the occasional Band-Aid.
While volunteers and staff may apply the occasional Band-Aid, each SeriousFun camp employs a full staff of doctors and nurses, as well as psychosocial support to attend to the medical needs of our campers. Our volunteers’ job is to ensure campers are having fun!
