raising a little hell in dublin
By Jose Torres, Senior Project Manager, Team SeriousFun
For the second year in a row, Team SeriousFun will be venturing to Dublin, Ireland, for the Rock 'n' Roll Dublin Half Marathon. The event provides runners and walkers with the chance to achieve a personal goal, while raising money to help children with serious illnesses attend camp.
Jes Halm, a participant in last year's event, had the time of her life. "One of the most inspiring things about Team SeriousFun is the amazing people I had the pleasure of meeting and running with," said Halm. "I am grateful every day for the friends I made on my trip to Dublin."
Jes was looking for another challenge after having just completed her first half marathon, and came across the Team SeriousFun program at just the right time. "I found them at one of the lowest points in my life and was able to find strength and passion to keep pushing myself to be a better person," she remarked. "While the fundraising amount was daunting, the Team SeriousFun staff was always supportive and believed in me."
The fact that Jes was making a difference in someone's life made her try even harder. She ended up exceeding her fundraising goal and successfully crossed the finish line, shaving two full minutes off of her previous half marathon time. After such a fun and fulfilling experience in Dublin, Halm decided to join up with Team SeriousFun again for The Color Run in Washington, D.C., later that year.
"My first half marathon in 2013 was for myself, to prove that I could do it," commented Jes. "My second half marathon was for all those kids with uncertain futures. They deserve the chance to have fun and 'raise a little hell.'"
The trip to Dublin was a life-changing one for Jes. Because of her efforts, children with serious illnesses all around the world will also experience something life-changing as well – a glorious, magical week at a SeriousFun camp!
